Ford is gearing up for the 30th Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®, which will be held Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. at Milliken State Park on the Detroit riverfront. This is the 29th year that Ford Warriors in Pink® (WIP) serves as the local presenting sponsor of the event.

“Caring for each other and treating every individual like family is more important now than ever,” Stacey Lanham, manager, Global CX Analytics and Ford Detroit Race for the Cure Champion.  “Through the Ford WIP program, Ford helps to raise important funds aimed at removing mobility barriers for patients.”

To date, Ford has dedicated more than $138 million to the cause, with 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of WIP wear and gear going to two charity partners, one of which is Susan G. Komen.

“Funds dedicated to Susan G. Komen directly benefit its Treatment Assistant Program, which helps individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment through Ford-funded grants and services,” said Lanham.  “This program is designed to help those facing transportation challenges by providing limited financial assistance and support services in times of need.  Since 2019, Ford’s donations to these grants have provided more than 1,000 active breast cancer patients needed financial support to help ensure continuation of their much-needed medical care.”

Members of the Ford workforce – along with their family and friends – are encouraged to register for the race and join the Ford team using the code “FORD.”  Packets and t-shirts will be mailed to participants in late September.

In addition to the main site at the Detroit riverfront, this year’s race will also include satellite locations at three area metro parks:  Lake St. Clair (Metro Beach), Kensington and Stoney Creek. There is also an option to join the race virtually.

“The satellite locations are additional places reserved for people to participate in the 5K race in real time,” explained Lanham.  “If you are interested in joining at one of those locations, you would still select the option to ‘join in person’ when registering.”

Participants are encouraged to join weekly, themed “Pink it Out” challenges during the month of August.  Post your photos to Facebook with the hashtag “PinkItOutKGD” and make sure your post is public for a chance to win great prizes from Warriors in Pink.  Be sure to register for the race before participating to be eligible to win.  For more information on the Pink it Out challenges, please visit the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure Facebook page.
