In 2021, Mexico registered 6,529 forest fires, according to the National Forestry Commission. The state of Chihuahua ranks first in affected area with 89,231 hectares. For that reason, at Chihuahua Engine Plant, we decided to use our resources to help. The plant engineering and environmental engineering departments joined forces to reforest part of the affected area in San Juanito, a town located in Bocoyna, Chihuahua.

The government of the municipality of Bocoyna and Ecosistemas y Medio Ambiente Sierra Madre Consulting guided us and prepared the affected area for 1,006 trees to be planted. Ford employees and their families formed a group of more than 40 volunteers who, on June 30, traveled to the Sierra of Chihuahua.

The scenery was astonishing. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie, taking place on a gray planet different from ours. However, it represents the harsh present of Earth. At Ford, we are aware that we must change the way we use the resources we have and we know that it is our responsibility to rehabilitate nature, to reverse the damage.

Our efforts are not and will not be isolated or fickle. In addition to our constant search for technology that allows our consumers to reduce their impact on the environment, we believe in sustainable production. Some examples of our commitment to the environment at Chihuahua Engine Site are the use of renewable energy in our production, collecting rainwater to use in our processes, using drinking water only for human consumption, and recycling and reusing the waste we produce.

We will continue to seek to help our community on an ongoing basis. Being able to provide aid and not doing it is unthinkable for the Ford family. We know that the best time to take responsibility for the environment is now. A change is still possible but, more so, necessary… so that we have a planet to call home.
