Livingston’s Soda Fountain and Grill owner Jack Pettigrew has such fond memories of his 1968 Mustang – including reportedly driving it with the top down in the winter – that he and his wife a Glenda, co-owner of the restaurant, have decorated their Brownsville, Tennessee eatery with Ford memorabilia and mementos, including locally-made Ford pottery.

The couple, married for 27 years, is topping their adoration for the company with a BlueOval City-themed milkshake that expresses their excitement for Ford’s arrival in Tennessee. The birthday cake-flavored treat is topped with blue sprinkles and a blue-and-white lollipop. The restaurant is situated just 15 minutes from the location of Ford’s BlueOval City in Stanton, Tennessee. An image of the milkshake recently caught the attention of Ford President and CEO Jim Farley, who tweeted: “Excited for Ford to be a part of this west Tennessee community! Thanks to Jack and Glenda for the kind welcome.”

The $5.6 billion battery and vehicle manufacturing campus will be the largest in the company. The sustainable electric vehicle and battery manufacturing facility will create approximately 6,000 new jobs to build Ford’s next-generation electric truck, as well as batteries to power future Ford and Lincoln electric vehicles. The site will be a vertically-integrated ecosystem that includes a vehicle assembly plant, a BlueOval SK battery plant, key suppliers and recycling. The new assembly plant is designed to be carbon neutral with zero waste to landfill once fully operational.

Livingston’s Soda Fountain and Grill opened earlier this year just four doors down from the location of Jack Pettigrew’s father’s former pharmacy. Jack, a retired physician, recalls visiting his father at work to get special treat from the store’s soda fountain. Jack opened the restaurant in his father’s memory more than 60 years later. The idea for the milkshake reportedly came from a conversation between the Pettigrews and a Ford executive who was having a milk shake at the restaurant.

“Ford is the electric shock that is going to get the heart of Brownsville going again,” said Jack Pettigrew. “We're looking to the big jolt and hope we can make Ford proud of what we do and how we do it.”

Ford and its construction partners began preparing the land at BlueOval City for construction in late March. Formal construction is set to begin later this year.
