Dagenham’s ‘Lion’ Engine Line Celebrates Major Milestone

Jan 22, 2024

DUNTON, UK – Ford’s Dagenham Engine Plant has just celebrated another magnificent milestone after producing its 1.5 millionth Lion diesel unit, as well as increasing crank shaft production.

The Lion V6 engine started life at Dagenham in 2004 and has manufactured engines for Jaguar Land Rover as well as Peugeot and Citroën. The V8 engine followed in 2006.

Meeting the euro emission standards, the V6 has been used across the Citroën C5 and C6, Peugeot 607 and 407, Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover/Sport, and multiple vehicles in the Jaguar range. The engine has also been installed for the iconic Ford F150 and Ford Territory.

There are currently two derivatives (LHD/RHD), which go into Ford Ranger and Ford Everest.

Paul Vickers, Lion Area Manager, said: “One and a half million engines is a great achievement for the whole team. A huge well done to all operators, engineers and supervisors involved. The demand for our product continues to grow into our overseas customer base. Globally we are the single source for the crank and have seen demand grow for Lion to its highest ever levels.”
