Ford has come a long way from the day Henry Ford told customers they could buy their Model T in any colour their heart desired, so long as it was black.
Fast forward to today and, from Arctic White to Sedona Orange, there are more than 20 paint colour options available on Ranger across the Ford International Market Group (IMG) which consists of Australia and New Zealand, ASEAN, North and South Africa and Middle East markets.
With all that choice you might expect new car buyers to have become adventurous when selecting the colour of their vehicle. After all, according to Krista Lindegger, colour and materials designer, Ford Australia: “colour is what adds personality and enhances the surface design”.
But, when it comes to the crunch, Ranger buyers prefer to keep things simple. According to sales data from across Ford IMG, more than 35% of all the Rangers sold in the last six months were painted white (Arctic White 26.2% and Frozen White 10.9%).
“White speaks to Ranger’s roots as a workhorse and, from a practical point-of-view it's popular with fleet buyers as well as private business owners who cover their vehicles in branding,” said Lindegger.
White is also the most popular hue for Everest with Snow Flake White (20%) and Arctic White (14%) making up 34% of the sales mix across Ford IMG.
What’s the second most popular colour for Ranger? In a distant second is Meteor Grey, followed by Frozen White, Absolute Black, Aluminium Metallic, Shadow Black, Conquer Grey and Sedona Orange rounding out the top eight best-selling colours across Ford IMG.
